## Consumption fails with "Input PDF has a digital signature"
You might find messages like this in your log files:
```
[ERROR] [paperless.consumer] Error occurred while consuming document digital-signed.pdf: DigitalSignatureError: Input PDF has a digital signature. OCR would alter the document, invalidating the signature.
```
This can be fixed by adding following configuration to your settings.
```yaml
PAPERLESS_OCR_USER_ARGS={"invalidate_digital_signatures":true}
```
!!! note
This is a protection mechanism from the upstream project [OCRmyPDF](https://github.com/ocrmypdf/OCRmyPDF) and mid have legal implications.
Please read up on the details at [Digital signatures](https://ocrmypdf.readthedocs.io/en/latest/pdfsecurity.html#digital-signatures).
